New Delhi, Nov 20: Life Insurance Corporation would manage a new scheme for handloom weavers, textile secretary S B Mohapatra said today. The new insurance scheme would be funded through Central government grant and participation of the weavers, he added.
The new scheme would not put any burden on the states, he said, addressing a two-day conference of state secretaries, directors and commissioners in charge of handloom here today.
He, however, stressed that for orderly implementation of the scheme, weavers/artisans identity cards should be issued, the cost of which would be borne by the Central government.
The card could also be issued for getting cenvat free yarn, Mohapatra added.
