Drivers have to be careful while parking their vehicles as parking anywhere can now result in a fine of Rs 100 for first offence and Rs 300 for second with Delhi traffic police launching a rules and regulation drive to improve the driver behaviour in the capital which has witnessed a steep rise in the number of vehicles. The drive, which will be launched from April 1, will be aimed to change the behaviour of the motorists in an effort to make Delhi roads safe resulting in efficient movement of vehicles and avoiding congestion, Sanjay Singh, DCP traffic, said.
Three-Wheeler Scooter Rickshaw (TSR) in particular hamper the free flow of traffic as a large number of TSRs are found parked near bus stops and in bus lanes, he said.
In a bid to make the national capital safe, comfortable and efficient movement zone, Delhi traffic police would now be laying emphasis on prosecuting motorists, Singh added.
Figures show that with the increase of motor vehicles violation of rules too has risen. The apex court has also directed the authorities entrusted with administration and enforcement of motor vehicles act, to ensure that buses should be confined to the bus lane and no other vehicle should enter that lane, police said.
Among other places, parking near a road-crossing, a bend, on a foot-path, on a highway, near a bus-stop, school and hospital entrance thereby blocking the sign boards will end up in a fine for a driver.
