Ex-serviceman, spying for ISI, nabbed in Meerut
Meerut, Oct 19: An ex-serviceman was today arrested for allegedly passing defence-related information to an employee of Pakistan High Commission in Delhi, a senior police official said here.
Meerut, Oct 19: An ex-serviceman was today arrested for allegedly passing defence-related information to an employee of Pakistan High Commission in Delhi, a senior police official said here.
"Following specific information that Afsar Ali, who had taken voluntary retirement from the Indian Army in 1977, was spying for Pakistan's ISI and would pass important secret information to an employee of the Pakistan High Commission, a trap was laid," Senior Superintendent of Police, Meerut, Badriprasad Singh told news agencies.
Ali was caught while allegedly giving information to an employee of the high commission on phone from a Pco booth, he said, adding maps and sketches of the Meerut cantonment area were found from him.
Singh said during interrogations Ali revealed that he worked for ISI.
A case under various sections of the IPC and also under the official secrets act was registered against him, the official said and added, he would be produced before a local court tomorrow.
