Guwahati, Dec 08: Opposition leader in Bihar Assembly Sushil Kumar Modi today said there were fears of more attacks on Biharis in Assam after the December 15 deadline set by the Ulfa to them to leave the state. The ultimatum has created panic in worst-affected Tinsukia and Dibrugarh districts of Assam with the Ulfa threatening them with dire consequences if they did not act accordingly, Modi, a BJP member heading a seven-member 'goodwill mission' of Bihar legislators to the state, said.
"The attacks, which claimed 56 lives, were part of a bigger game plan of Ulfa commander-in-chief Paresh Baruah, now sheltering in Bangladesh, to drive out the hindi speaking people and fill the vacuum with illegal infiltrators of that country," he told reporters here.
Visiting three camps of victims of anti-Bihari violence in the two worst affected districts, he said the inmates had complained that the district administrations were forcing them to leave the camps and 70 per cent of them had either left for Bihar or were staying with their relatives elsewhere in Assam.
Appealing to the congress high command to change the `weak' Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi who allegedly "has direct links with the Ulfa", the Bihar legislator also demanded Gogoi's resignation on moral ground.
The Ulfa, he alleged, had a pact with congress and it helped the party to win the last assembly elections. "That is the reason why Gogoi failed to take strong steps unlike the erstwhile Prafulla Kumar Mahanta-led AGP government which had taken serious steps to contain the Ulfa".
