Lucknow, May 10: A local court today granted
permission to police for starting investigations into the
saree stampede incident in which senior BJP leader Lalji
Tandon is one of the accused.
Additional chief judicial magistrate Raj Narain Singh
granted the plea on the application of the SHO of Mahangar
police station, where the case was registered, seeking
permission to start the investigation as the case was
registered as non-cognisable report.
However, the court turned down the plea of another accused Brijendra Murari Yadav to grant more time for filing of objections. A case had been registered against Tandon, Yadav and some others on the direction of the Election Commission after 22 women were killed in the stampede during a saree distribution function on the occasion of Tandon's birthday on April 12 last.
