Kadamtala (Siliguri), Aug 09: Bangladesh rifles (BDR) has to be more vigilant along the Indo-Bangla border to check infiltration if they wanted to avoid firing by BSF personnel, inspector general of the north Bengal frontier of BSF, K S Vohra has said.
At the end of the four-day co-ordination meeting between high officials of BSF and BDR here, Vohra told a press conference last night that the seven-member BDR delegation led by its deputy director general s m golam rabbani had requested the BSF to stop firing along the border claiming lives of Bangladeshi nationals. Vohra said he had made it clear to his Bangladesh counterpart that BSF used to open fire only when jawans were attacked by intruders being chased or challenged. If BDR was sincere to check infiltration of Bangladeshi nationals into India, BSF firing would be automatically eschewed, he said.
During the meeting, BSF also failed to oblige the BDR delegation by accepting its proposal not to go for tea plantation within 150 meters of the zero line inside India.
