New Delhi, Dec 20: A Delhi court today ordered DNA test of Rahul, the prime accused in the Maulana Azad Medical College student gangrape case, even as the controversy over his age continued. Metropolitan Magistrate Bharat Parashar ordered the DNA test of Rahul after defence counsel Ajay Digpaul said he did not have any objection to the prosecution plea.

Meanwhile, the controversy over Rahul's age continued with Digpaul claiming he was a minor and the police contradicting the same on the basis of ossification test report which "confirmed" he was a major. Police told the court that Rahul's MCD birth certificate and his date of birth mentioned in school record, which showed him as minor, could not be relied upon in view of the finding of the ossification test. The test relates to bone condition and helps determine the age of a person.

Following Digpaul's request to summon records of Girdhari Lal memorial hospital, Kamla market, where the accused was born, the court asked him to file a formal application in this regard on December 24, the next date of hearing.

The court also ordered ossification test of co-accused Amit's on his counsel S K Sharma's plea. Rahul and Amit are in judicial custody. Two other accused are in juvenile observation home while the fifth one - Ashok -arrested for allegedly giving shelter to Rahul has been released on bail. Bureau Report
