Sriganganagar (Rajasthan), Sept 15: Virtually launching her party's poll campaign, Congress president Sonia Gandhi today accused BJP and Sangh Parivar of "double talk" on the Ayodhya temple issue and attempting to divide the people on communal lines. "The BJP and Sangh Parivar have been trying to spread social hatred and divide the people on communal lines to reap political benefits," she told a public meeting as part of the two-day 600 kms 'Jan Sampark Abhiyan' here.
Accusing the BJP and Sangh Parivar outfits of "double talk" on the temple issue, Gandhi said "sometimes the BJP says they are with the VHP on the temple issue, some times they say they would stick to the NDA agenda. What can we expect from those who change their stand repeatedly?"
Charging the BJP with trying to destroy the secular fabric, she said Congress was committed to the ideals of secularism, brotherhood and unity among the people.
"It is on these very principles that the Congress has created history and is serving the people of 14 states which are ruled by the party," she said, adding that the party was committed not to compromise on these principles.
Referring to the drought situation in Rajasthan, Gandhi attacked the Centre for not providing adequate relief to the affected state. She praised the Congress state government for its "courageous steps" to confront the perennial drought situation and address the difficulties of the people.
The Congress chief also assailed the Centre for its disinvestment policy saying there was no clarity in its stand on the issue.
Gandhi, who launched the 'Jan Sampark Abhiyan' (roadshow) from Hanumangarh in this district, was attended among others by Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, AICC general secretary Ambika Soni, state PCC president Girja Vyas.
During the campaign, she would travel through Suratgarh, Bikaner and Jodhpur. She would also undertake a similar roadshow in different parts of the country in the coming months.
