London, Sept 13: Olympic rowing champions Steve Redgrave and Matthew Pinsent were have been named as board members for London's bid to host the 2012 Olympic Games. Bid chairwoman Barbara Cassani also included Howard Bernstein and Charles Allen, who organised the 2002 Commonwealth Games in Manchester, in her team to promote London's cause.
''Not only do we have Olympic gold medallists but people with real experience of putting on a world-class sporting event,'' Cassani said in a statement. Former high-jumper Dalton Grant was also chosen, but there was no place for ex-Olympic middle-distance champion Sebastian Coe. London is competing with Havana, Istanbul, Leipzig, Madrid, Moscow, New York, Paris and Rio De Janeiro for the right to stage the 2012 summer games.
The International Olympic Committee will decide the winner in 2005. Bureau Report
