Bhopal, May 07: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Digvijay Singh today offered unconditional talks with Naxalites and directed the Balaghat district administration to take steps in this regard. A government representative may participate in the talks if the Naxals so wished, Singh said in a release. Balaghat Collector Dr Rajesh Rajora said as per directives of the chief minister, the process for holding talks with the Naxalites would be initiated soon. During his recent visit to Songudda, Singh had sought suggestions from the locals about the Naxalite problem and urged the ultras to shun the path of violence. The chief minister, during his visit to Balaghat district on December 19, 2002 had announced that if the Naxals stopped violence in next four months, the state government may remove special police posts in the area. Singh announced a rehabilitation package for the surrendered ultras and those affected by Naxal-violence. The package provides for agricultural land and housing plots among other reliefs. Singh has directed the district administration to further empower the traditional panchayat justice system in the Naxalite affected areas. Bureau Report
