Dehra Dun, June 16: Four people, including two women, were burnt alive in Uttaranchal as several fresh incidents of forest fire were reported from the jungles of the hill state today, taking the toll in wild fire so far to 12. The four were killed in Kurad village of Chamoli district when they tried to put out the fire in the nearby bushes, District Magistrate Madan Singh told reporters adding a 12-year-old girl received serious burn injuries.
Forest fires had claimed eight lives in the first week of this month, officials said.
Fresh incidents of forests fires were reported from Rudraprayag and Tehri districts of Garhwal region.
Forest department said all the 13 district magistrates have been asked to remain alert and keep a close watch on the situation.
