Baghdad, Sept 19: Former Iraqi Defense Minister Sultan Hashem Ahmad, one of the 55 most wanted officials of Saddam Hussein's ousted regime, surrendered to US forces in the northern city of Mosul today, a mediator told a news conference broadcast live on Qatar's al-Jazeera Ahmad gave himself up in his hometown of Mosul, said Daoud Baghestani, an official from the Iraqi Human Rights League. "There was no political or material price" for his surrender and "his name will be struck off the list of 55," Baghestani said, adding the operation was coordinated with the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) of Massoud Barzani. The US military in Iraq was not immediately available for confirmation of the report. Bureau Report
