New Delhi: Veteran actor Anupam Kher on Saturday took out a 'March for India' campaign here and said that India is a "tolerant country" and nobody has the right to call it "intolerant".

While leading the protest against the voices being raised over "intolerance" in the country, Kher said: “Every country has some problems but nobody has the right to call our country intolerant."


The actor and BJP supporter, who believes that India is a tolerant country, is leading a march from India Gate in central Delhi. From there, the gathering will march to the Rashtrapati Bhavan.

Some popular names that have joined Kher, whose wife Kirron Kher is a BJP MP, for the march include filmmakers Madhur Bhandarkar and Ashoke Pandit. A string of artistes, writers and painters have also joined Kher for the march.


Kher also said that he will meet President Pranab Mukherjee and deliver a message to him that India is a very tolerant country.


"We are secular people, we don't believe in pseudo-secularism or selective outrage," Kher said.


In the anti award return march, Anupam Kher to meet PM Narendra Modi at 6:30 pm on Saturday. Kher met the President, Pranab Mukherjee regarding the same.

Kher also added that a number of people wanted to water down his protest by claiming that he belongs to the ruling government. I have nothing to do with the ruling government, added the Bollywood actor.

Meanwhile, filmmaker Ashok Pandit vowed allegiance to Kher, saying he never thought the event would turn out to be so big.


On Friday, the Bollywood actor had requested Prime Minister Narendra Modi to be an audience to share with him the thoughts of "millions of Indians".
