New Delhi, Nov 01: National Commission for Minorities (NCM) has written to Home Minister L K Advani seeking permission for Sikh members to visit Nankana Sahib in Pakistan and said the Centre's stand of not allowing the Sikhs to go there was "spreading resentment" among the minority.
In a letter to Advani, NCM vice-chairman Tarlochan Singh said "the government should allow at least a symbolic group of a sizeable number to go to Pakistan to celebrate the birthday of Guru Nanak Dev on November 24 and Shiromani Gurudwara Prabhandhak Committee, Amritsar may organise the group."
"I am aware that our relations with Pakistan have been strained because of cross-border terrorism being encouraged by Pakistan. But India has already taken initiatives to reduce the tension by withdrawing our armed forces from the border," Singh said.
