New Delhi, June 03: A five-day Conference of commercial representatives of India from nearly a dozen countries in West Asia and North Africa will begin today. The conference from June 3-7 is being organised by the commerce department in collaboration with CII and Ficci and FEIO, an official release said.
Commercial representatives from Jordan, UAE, Egypt, Sudan, Kuwait, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Iran and Israel will interact with members of Trade and Business Association, Reserve Bank, Exim Bank and Export Councils across several metro locations. Exports to the region touched nearly six billion dollars in 2001-02, registering a growth of 3.5 per cent while non-oil imports grew four per cent at 3.16 billion dollars. Principal exports comprise of gems, jewellery, textiles and yarn products while imports are mainly in the form of crude oil and petroleum products, fertilisers, pearls and semi precious stones.
