Srinagar, July 18: Tourist arrival in Kashmir Valley crossed the one lakh mark for the first time after over 15 years, this season, an official spokesman said today. Receiving a steady inflow of tourists since April this year, Kashmir is regaining its position as a popular tourist destination, said the spokesman.
From a motley inflow of 4451 tourists in April this year, May and June recorded arrival of 19,228 and 51,096 holiday-makers, respectively, to the Kashmir Valley. During July 27,000 tourists have arrived in the Valley thus far. Last year arrival for April was 2151, for May 5137 and for June 1314 tourists respectively.
The daily arrival to the Valley is between 1800-2000 tourists, he added. The inflow of tourists to the Valley during the same period last year had been 10,970 only.
The number of foreign tourists visiting the Valley this year has also registered an appreciable increase with 3348 foreign holiday-makers choosing Kashmir as their holiday stop compared to 1343 for the corresponding period last year. Bureau Report
