Vijayawada, May 05: The NDA government is comtemplating a central act to provide more financial powers to local bodies, BJP president M Venkaiah Naidu said here today. Participating in a function at Vanapamula village in Krishna district, he said that the government is also committed to provide participatory rights to women in decision-making in the country.

Political parties should try to work in coordination and suggest constructive schemes for development of the country in every sphere, he said, adding only keeping the vote-bank in mind, parties should not promise to introduce schemes which could not be implemented like providing free power to farmers.
To provide drinking water to 2.12 lakh villages in the country, the NDA government took up "Swajaladhara" programme, under which villagers, who contributed 10 per cent share to the scheme, were allotted funds, he said.
To link two lakh villages in the country with roads, the Centre had taken up with Rs 60,000 crore Prime Ministers' Grammena Sadak Yojana, which would be completed by 2007, Naidu said.
He also inaugurated the Pedamalliyeallamaru Road and participated in a number of other programmes in Krishna district.
