Chennai, Jan 29: DMK members were evicted from the Tamil Nadu Assembly today when they attempted to disrupt the proceedings of the house. The assembly witnessed uproarious scenes for over 10 minutes when DMK members, got to their feet, demanding "justice" from the chair and a ruling from the speaker K Kalimuthu on allowing certain remarks by deputy leader of the DMK legislature party Duraimurugan yesterday to go on record.

During a debate on the Cauvery water problem yesterday, Duraimurugan had said AIADMK had betrayed the interests of the people of Tamil Nadu on the issue. Duraimurugan raised the issue during the zero hour today when he asked the speaker what his ruling was on his demand for allowing his remarks.

When the speaker had recorded chief minister Jayalalithaa's remarks that DMK president M Karunanidhi betrayed the interests of the state, his remarks should also go on record, Duraimurugan contended. Instead of giving his ruling, the speaker had adjourned the house abruptly yesterday, Duraimurugan said and wanted the speaker to give his ruling today.

The speaker told Duraimurugan that he had said in the house yesterday that he would be given an opportunity, if the DMK members remained calm and resumed their seats. But Duraimurugan was unable to control his MLAs, he said, adding the DMK leader should not rake up issues which figured in the house yesterday, today also. Bureau Report
