New Delhi, Sept 02: CBI raided the premises of a deputy general manager of a public sector undertaking after he was arrested in Mumabi for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs one lakh from an employee to clear his name for Voluntary Retirement Scheme (VRS).
The senior official S D Gunjal and an employee Vithal Shinde were arrested by the CBI on Saturday for allegedly demanding the bribe and were later produced before a designated court, who remanded them to the agency's custody till September four, a CBI spokesman said. The spokesman said that some documents had been recovered from the residence and official premises of the officials from Mumbai which were being scrutinised.
After the announcement of VRS in a Mumbai-based PSU, Richardson and Cruddas Ltd, the CBI alleged that Gunjal and Shinde had been demanding bribe from employees to clear their names for the scheme besides ensuring speedy disposal of their retirement benefits.

The two accused, while clearing the name of one of the employees, had demanded a bribe of Rs three lakh and 50 per cent of the benefits that would be accrued to him after the retirement, he said.
The employee had paid Rs one lakh as bribe and got all his benefits in July this year. However, Gunjal, allegedly with the help of Shinde, started harassing him.

The harassed employee lodged a complaint with the CBI, which laid a trap and arrested both of them while allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs one lakh from the complianant, he said.
