The show was held to highlight a new, justice ministry-approved project to give specialist fashion industry training to inmates and prepare them for life on the outside, according to the AltaRoma fashion agency which organised the event at Rome's Rebibbia prison.
From next month, stylists and fashion historians will give courses in the prison's female wing, and students will present their final couture work at a special show in July.
"From September, the group of new fashion workers will be ready to accept commissions from theatres, television and the film industry and be able to receive market prices for their work," AltaRoma said.
