Lucknow, Mar 08: BJP today condemned the incidents in the Uttar Pradesh Vidhan Sabha when the opposition sponsored no-confidence motion was defeated amidst bedlam in the House, terming them as "unfortunate." A general feeling in the state unit of the party during the working committee meeting that began here was that Wednesday's incidents in the assembly were unfortunate and there was a need for self-introspection by both the ruling and opposition parties, BJP spokesman Hriday Narain Dixit told reporters. Though the party defended the role of its legislators who acted in accordance with their role as a supporting party, the party workers were unhappy over the incidents, Dixit said. The party adopted a political resolution hailing the policies being pursued by the union government on curbing terrorism, correcting historical facts in text books prescribed in schools, union budget and Ayodhya issue.
The resolution was silent on the High Court directives to carry out excavation in the disputed area to resolve the issue besides the cassette and CD controversy that has rocked the state. Earlier in the day, the state unit president of the party, Vinay Katiyar, and senior minister Lalji Tandon also expressed their unhappiness over the incidents in the House.
