Srinagar, Oct 01: Frustrating the designs of separatists to hold anti-poll protests, the police on Tuesday detained Acting Chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) Javed Ahmad Mir. Mir, who is also executive member of Hurriyat Conference, was taken into preventive custody by police in Zainakadal area of downtown Srinagar this morning as he was planning an anti-poll demonstration in the city against the third phase of polls being held on Tuesday, they said.

The Special Operations Group (SOG) of local police also raided the office of the Islamic Students League, a constituent of the Hurriyat Conference, at Rajbagh on Monday night.

Seven activists of the separatist organisation were picked up during the raid, they said.

The sources said police also raided the houses of several leaders of Muslim League, another constituent of Hurriyat Conference, in the city, but no arrests were made. Bureau Report
