New Delhi, Nov 22: A complaint has been filed in a
Delhi court against Chief Minister Shiela Dikshit accusing her
and other Congress leaders of disrespecting the national flag
at a function kicking off the party's election campaign for
the state assembly polls.
The complaint made under the prevention of insults to
National Honour Act, 1971 was filed in the court of Additional
Chief Metropolitan Magistrate, who marked it to Metropolitan
Magistrate Sanjiv Jain.
The application will now come up for consideration on December 20.
The complainant Parvesh Khanna, an advocate, alleged that at the function held on November 18, "with due consent and full view and knowledge of accused Shiela Dikshit, the national flag was shown disrespect in the public place and in public view of dozens of press people, by placing the photo of Sonia Gandhi on top of the Ashok Chakra."
He alleged that Dikshit and her associates had "deliberately" allowed people to carry such flags in utter disregard to the constitutional obligations and honour of the national flag.
Since it was a political function, there was no need of using the national flag, he said and added this was also a violation of the model code of conduct issued by the Election Commission.
The complainant also attached newspaper clippings of the function to substantiate his allegations.
