New Delhi, Aug 11: Delhi Police today intensified its hunt for senior IPS office R K Sharma, prime suspect in journalist Shivani Bhatnagar murder case, carrying out raids at Himachal Pradesh, Haryana and Haridwar in Uttaranchal even as it maintained a watch on his relatives and close friends. Police teams conducted raids at several ashrams in the holy city of Haridwar besides some hill stations in Himachal Pradesh, senior city police officials told reporters.

Himachal Pradesh police was extending full cooperation to the city police in its efforts to track down Sharma whose bail petition was rejected by a Panchkula court yesterday, they said.

Amidst speculation that Sharma, against whom the city police has secured a non-bailable warrant, may move the high court for anticipatory bail, police also mounted surveillance on his relatives and close friends besides "monitoring" his bank record to track down any money withdrawals, the officials said. Sharma had gone missing after taking leave on August two following arrest of two accused Sri Bhagwan and Pradeep on charges of conspiracy and murder.

Sharma's wife Madhu has sought a CBI probe into the murder of the Indian Express journalist three years ago.

She has also sought intervention of the Prime Minister to restrain the union home ministry and the Delhi Police from "targeting her husband who is being made a scapegoat to save somebody".
