Jaipur, Jan 20: Pandemonium prevailed in Rajasthan Assembly for over three hours today after speaker Sumitra Singh turned down opposition Congress' demand that she direct the government to make a statement on power situation in the state. Opposition members trouped into well of the House shouting slogans when Singh refused to budge to the demand of Leader of Opposition B D Kalla that government make a statement on power situation immediately.

As soon as the question hour ended, congress members were on their feet saying that 38 of them had given notices on adjournment motion on the power situation as farmers were not getting adequate supply of electricity for Rabi crops.
They refused to accept the speaker's ruling that she had sought government's response on the notices and the members should wait for 24 hours.

Education Minister Ghanshyam Tiwari said that the government would submit its response to the speaker before 10 am tomorrow and would make a statement in the house if the Speaker directed it to do so.

Singh said that members could raise the issue of power situation during the debate on motion of thanks on Governor's address and there was a question listed for tomorrow also.

"Since government is willing to make a statement, I shall ask for the same only after seeing government's reply on adjournment motions tomorrow," she said.
