London, Sept 14: The public, who have adopted Chicken Tikka Masala as their national dish, are about to sample another Indian-inspired culinary delight -- tandoori flavoured Cheddar cheese.
Supermarket chain Tesco is to start selling the cheese in 200 of its stores by the end of next month, according to a British newspaper.
"We are testing the water with the tandoori cheese," it quoted a Tesco spokesman as saying. "If it goes well, our technicians would probably need six to eight weeks to russle up something fish and chip flavoured.
"Then we could start looking at other things," the spokesman said. "You could have tikka or vindaloo flavours, Thai-flavoured cheeses or Chinese, based on the popularity of the British takeaway menu."
Britons, often ridiculed for their lack of culinary imagination, have become enthusiastic converts to foreign food in recent decades and eat vast amounts of takeaway Indian, Chinese and Thai food. Bureau Report
