Mumbai, Sept 16: Film actor Sanjay Dutt, charged with conspiracy in the 1993 bomb blast case, today appeared before a special court to register his presence in keeping with a judicial directive even as the judge exempted him till September 30. Sanjay did not come to the court on September 16 as he was not well. On a plea by his lawyer Farhana Shah, the Judge P D Kode directed him to appear today to register his presence.
Sanjay returned from Chandigarh after a film shoot on September 15 night but could not come to the court the next day as he was not well, his lawyer said.
Sanjay was exempted till September 30 on condition that his lawyer would represent him in his absence. He was allowed to resume his shooting schedules but told not to leave the court's jurisdiction without permission. He has been warned against maintaining contact with absconding accused in this case.
Sanjay has been charged with possessing AK-56 rifle which was part of the consignment smuggled from Pakistan for use in the blasts. He has also been charged with destroying the weapon with the help of co-accused.
Outside the court, the actor's fans gathered in large numbers to greet him. Bureau Report
