Gandhinagar, Mar 10: Victims of post-Godhra communal violence in Gandhinagar district today deposed before the two-man riot inquiry commission comprising Justice G T Nanavati and Justice K G Shah. People from villages and towns in the district alleged before the commission discrepancies in the compensation package given by the state government and inaction by police when mobs were on the rampage, commission sources said. Riot affected people from Pansar, Pur, Absana and other towns and villages told the commission that many victims were yet to get their compensation. Victims of Absana alleged “police inaction” when armed mobs were on the rampage and set several houses and shops on fire after news spread about the Godhra incident. Around 2000 persons were killed in the state in the communal frenzy after the Godhra train carnage on February 27 last year.
