Congress has decided to rope in popular actor Govinda for its poll campaign in the forthcoming assembly elections in Uttaranchal and Punjab. With 'Bade Miyan' Amitabh Bachchan attending rallies organised by Samajwadi parties in Uttar Pradesh, which is also going to polls, and BJP having a galaxy of stars like Shatrughan Sinha, Vinod Khanna and Hema Malini to attract people to their election rallies, the Congress does not want to be left behind and has decided to rope in 'Chhote Miyan' Govinda.
''The party has signed a contract with Govinda No 1 Entertainment Private limited, where the film star alongwith his troupe will provide entertainment shows and sing patriotic songs at the party's election rallies in these states,'' Mumbai unit Congress chief Murli Deora said.
Govinda had made his first appearance at a congress function in Mumbai last year, where party president Sonia Gandhi had unveiled a life size statue of former prime minister late Rajiv Gandhi at the cooperage grounds in south Mumbai. Bureau Report
