New Delhi, Oct 11: The Congress screening committee on Madhya Pradesh assembly polls today cleared a large number of candidates from the 79 names forwarded from different constituencies of the state. Stating this, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Digvijay Singh said that the remaining names would be cleared after consultations with other senior leaders including Kamalnath and state assembly Speaker Sriniwas Tiwari.
Singh said discussions were also on with state Congress president Radhakrishna Malviya, former central ministers from the state and the two deputy chief ministers. AICC general secretary in-charge of the state Ambika Soni, CWC member Ghulam Nabi Azad, Chief Minister Digvijay Singh and state PCC chief Radhakrishna Malviya were among the leaders who attended the first meeting of the scrutiny committee headed by senior party leader G Venkataswami.
Meanwhile, Congress sources said the party will make all efforts to ensure that candidates for all the 230 constituencies in the state were decided much ahead of the filing of nomination papers. It said there were 110 seats were the state unit has recommended only a single name, 40 with two names and 72 with more than three names. Bureau Report
