New Delhi, Oct 09: Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani today inaugurated the 34th International Film Festival of India (IFFI). The festival showcased Pinjar as one of the three Indian films to be premiered this time.

Making a plea against video piracy in his inaugural address, the Deputy PM said this menace cannot be tackled by the police alone and the viewing public must learn to say no to pirated VCDs and DVDs.
Taking note of the popularity and reach of Indian cinema both within the country and overseas, Advani said this industry has made perhaps the largest contribution towards propagating the use of Hindi as a national language.
"The world has learnt to recognise India as a leader in the information technology arena but other than it, entertainment is another sector where India can lead the world," he said.
Information and Broadcasting Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said he was happy that for the first time three Indian films were being premiered during the festival.
Addressing the inaugural of the 10-day festival, veteran actor Kamal Haasan also made an impassioned plea against video piracy while advocating theatre experience for people keen to watch films.

Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit expressed disappointment at the fact that the festival may shift away from the city to Goa in the near future while welcoming the distinguished film personalities present today.
