Kolkata, Feb 15: In an obvious reference to Bangladesh, West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee today said fundamentalist and terrorist organisations operating from "our neighbouring country" were trying to destabilise India which have led to spurt in criminal activities in the state. "A number of fundamentalist and terrorist organisations are operating from our neighbouring country and our police force will have to be more vigilant and active to disrupt their evil designs," Bhattacharjee said while addressing the annual combined parade of West Bengal police and Kolkata Police here.

"We want friendly relations with our neighbouring countries, but the activities of these organisations are in the direction of destabilising the country," he said, adding, "state police force has an important role to play in this respect and it will have to be more harsh while dealing with them."
Bhattacharjee also urged the police not to budge before political or any kind of pressure in dealing with crime and criminals in the state.

He called upon them to take strict actions against the organisations like MCC and PWG in South Bengal and KPP in North Bengal, "who are not following the law of the land."
Bhattacharjee said the country as a whole was passing through a difficult phase as criminal activities were on the upswing even though a number of steps had been initiated by the state governments as well as the Centre. Bureau Report
