New Delhi, May 19: A consumer court here has summoned the CEO of BSES Yamuna Power Ltd Himadri Bannerjee in connection with a complaint by slum dwellers of the J J camp in Trans-Yamuna area alleging that their electricity lines were disconnected without due notice. Perusing the complaint, the East Delhi Disputes Redressal Forum directed Bannerjee to appear tomorrow (May 20) either in person or through an authorised agent.
The slum dwellers had alleged that BSES had slapped an unreasonable bill on them contrary to an understanding arrived at in 2001 with the then power supplier DVB. According to the agreement, which intended to put an end to the pilfering of electricity by slum dwellers, a contractor was appointed in the area through whom power was to be routed, said Nikhilesh Jain, counsel for the contractor.
The agreement envisaged a commission of 15 percent of the bill amount to the contractor, he said. However, BSES, which came into existence very recently slapped a bill exceeding Rs 60 lakh on the consumers saying this was arrears for the earlier period and claimed that bills sent during that period were only "provisional", the complaint alleged.
