Solapur, Sept 29: The Congress party today suffered a huge jolt in Maharashtra when the BJP-Shiv Sena candidate Pratasinh Mohite-Patil won the Solapur Lok Sabha by-poll. The bye-election was tipped to be the first trial of strength of the Democratic Front (DF) government after Sushilkumar Shinde assumed the reins of Maharashtra. Mohite-Patil defeated his nearest rival Anandrao Devkate of Congress by 1,22,817 votes. By-poll was necessitated in the constituency with Chief Minister Sushilkumar Shinde vacating his seat, which he represented for three consecutive terms to head the state government. Bureau Report
