Jalandhar, June 11: An AICC high-level team deputed by Congress president Sonia Gandhi today visited the communal violence-hit Talhan village and assessed that the situation was still "tense" in the area. Led by senior leader Manmohan Singh, the team had AICC general secretary Ambika Soni and secretary Krishna Tirath as its members.
"After talking to both the communities, we think that the situation is still tense in village," Soni told reporters.
"We have come here to listen both the communities with open heart and after listening them came to know of their grievances," she said.
Manmohan Singh said, “After meeting with both the communities, it has come to light that they wanted the issue to be resolved at the earliest to bring back peace.” "The issue about the participation of dalit community in the management of local gurudwara was a local issue and it should be solved locally so that it could not be blown up into an explosive situation," he added.
Chief Minister Amarinder Singh, who was also accompanying the team, said he has identified the anti-social elements responsible for igniting caste-conflicts in the village and action would be taken against them.
Besides the chief minister, several state ministers and party leaders accompanied the team.
The team's visit comes six days after clashes erupted between dalit and jat Sikh community members in the village. Bureau Report
