Govt to bring in bill for statistical commission
New Delhi, May 19: Centre today decided to bring a bill in the monsson session of Parliament for setting up a National Statistical Commision to provide `reliable quantitative` information on social, economic, financial and environmental aspects.

This decision was taken by the cabinet at its meeting
chaired by Atal Behari Vajpayee, official spokesman told
reporters here.
The commission would be headed by a part-time chairman and would have four part-time members, he said.
This follows the Rangarajan Commision recommendation for the creation of a permanent and statutory apex body for policy making, coordination and ensuring the quality of core statistics. Bureau Report
