Beijing, June 30: China today welcomed the "positive measures" taken by Palestine and Israel in support of the Middle East peace process and hoped that the two sides would fulfil their commitments and resume dialogue. "China welcomes and supports the positive steps taken by the Palestinians and Israel, which will help break the deadlock in the Middle East peace process," Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Kong Quan said.
He said China hoped the two sides would continue their efforts, fulfil their commitments and further promote the peace talks.
His comments came after the statement of the Palestinian factions of Fatah, Hamas and Islamic Jihad on suspending military operations against Israel, and Tel Aviv's withdrawal of troops from parts of the Gaza Strip.
