Gold Coast (Australia), July 09: Thieves stole two training bikes from Australia's Grand Prix winner Anthony West as well as a race bike replica in a ram raid robbery in Eastern Australia, his family said yesterday.
A stolen car was used to smash through an entrance at West's father's plumbing business on Queensland's Gold Coast, allowing the thieves to load the three bikes on to a trailer and escape in another car.
West, 21, who became the first Australian in 25 years to win a 250cc motorcycle Grand Prix last month at Assen in Holland, will not be told about the robbery until he returns home, his father Tony said.
"I'm not going to tell him. No way. He has spent about 5,000 dollars (3,400 USD) on each of them to get them set up for his training," said West.
"I will try to get some new ones before he gets home."

West was due to return to the Gold Coast for a short break from his world championship commitments later this month, his father said.
