New Delhi, Dec 25: Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee turned 79 today and had a rare birthday with the celebrations first taking place past midnight on Delhi-Jaipur highway. Diverted by heavy fog that stalked the capital last night, his IAF Boeing 737 had to land in Jaipur and Vajpayee had to undertake 250-km journey from the Pink City to Delhi by road.
At the stroke of midnight, the Prime Minister and his entourage broke journey at midway, a Rajasthan Tourism Development Corporation hotel, where a cake was ready and the birthday boy cut it to the chorus of "Happy Birthday to you".
From midway which is 125 km from Delhi, Vajpayee again hit the road reaching here around 3 am.
He was scheduled to come to Delhi from Lucknow last evening but the flight had to be diverted to Jaipur because of fog here. Bureau Report
