Jammu, Nov 02: In a novel way to provide specialised medicare facilities to the door steps of people living in remote and hilly areas, the state health and medical education Ministry in Jammu and Kashmir is set to launch mobile specialised medicare facilities in Kathua from tomorrow. The first of its kind mobile surgical facilities including operation theatres will be part of a health mela in the remote and mountainous Basholi belt of Kathua district for providing people with the special facilities at their door steps, deputy medical superintendent Government Medical College (GMC) Hospital Yashpal Sharma told here today.

"Doctors of top healthcare institutes from the state and outside would be holding the eight day long surgical mela starting from November 3 at Basholi in Kathua district," Sharma said. Over 10,000 to 12,000 patients are expected to throng the mela site, he said, adding that over 130,00 people of remote Basholi-Kathua belt would participate in the week long general health care mela held from October 16.

"We will launch such multiple health and medicare melas in all the remote, backward and mountainous terrains to serve these people, who have remained neglected on the medicare front for last over 5 decades," he said. Sharma said such melas would be held each month in remote, hilly and backward areas of all the districts in Jammu and Kashmir.
