Kuala Lumpur, Oct 10: Afghanistan President Hamid Karzai will lead his country's delegation to the Organisation of the Islamic Conference (OIC) summit this month, an official said today. The summit of the 57-nation organisation is to be held from October 16-18 in Malaysia's new government capital of Putrajaya, south of Kuala Lumpur.

The war-shattered country, one of the founding members of the OIC, did not attend the Tehran Summit in 1997 or the Doha Summit in 2000.

Afghanistan's ambassador to Malaysia Amanullah Jayhoon told the official Bernama news agency that four ministers would accompany Karzai during the visit.
"The President and the ministers will also take the opportunity to discuss with some of the leaders of member countries the ongoing reconstruction and the rebuilding of peace and how they can help us in that area," he said.

He also said that Karzai would meet with Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad on the sidelines of the summit.

"We appreciate the support rendered by the OIC and member countries all this while ... This includes the resolution to support Afghanistan's reconstruction and rebuilding of peace during the last Doha Summit (in 2000)," he said.
"We are optimistic that the OIC will continue to support and help us."
