Anthrax scare was created again in the Rashtrapati Bhawan on Thursday when a suspicious envelope was received there.
The envelope, containing some powdery substance, was received by an official at the presidential palace, Deputy Commissioner of Police (New Delhi) Mukesh Meena said.
Suspecting it to contain anthrax spores, the envelope was immediately handed over to police which referred it to the National Institute of Communicable Diseases (NICD) for chemical examination, he said.
This is the second time that anthrax scare has gripped Rashtrapati Bhawan. A letter containing some powdery substance had created anthrax scare at the presidential palace on October 30 when it was received by an official there.
However, no harmful contents were found in it during chemical examination. Ever since the anthrax scare gripped the US and many parts of the world following the US-led strikes against Afghanistan, suspicious letters have been received in the ministries of home, health, law and other departments and private residences but no harmful contents have been found in them.
One of these letters was addressed to Home Minister L K Advani and was received in his office on October 23. Police are conducting an inquiry to ascertain the sources of such letters.
