New Delhi, Nov 07: Private telecoms firms offering limited mobility and fixed phone services added 775,949 new users in October, taking the total number of customers to 6.9 million, a statement from the industry body said on Thursday. Data from the Association of Basic Telecom Operators showed nearly 81 per cent of the new additions -- 626,647 customers -- opted for cheaper limited radius mobility services which compete with GSM facilities used by 19.35 million customers.
Apart from seven private firms, state-run Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd and Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd also offer limited mobility services, but their new customers were not included.
The number of fresh additions in October fell 16 per cent from the previous month when 924,985 subscribers signed up.
