Rourkela, March 22: Intuc-affiliated Rourkela Sramik Sangha has defeated HMS-affiliated Rourkela Majdoor Sabha in the Rourkela steel plant's trade union recognition election held here yesterday. The win gives Rourkela Sramik Sangha its fourth consecutive term.

According to official sources, a total of 20,867 workers had exercised their franchise through secret ballot in the election. While Sangha led by its general secretary M D N Panikar received 10557 votes, the sabha general secretary and veteran trade union leader Raj Kishore Samantray received 9255 votes.

CITU-led trade union was placed in the third position in the election in which 10 trade unions had participated.
