On board special IAF aircraft, Aug 02: Dismissing a speculation about his taking over as BJP president ahead of next Lok Sabha elections, Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani today said there is no such proposal. "There is no such proposal," Advani told accompanying reporters en-route to Pune when asked whether he was ruling out the possibility of taking over as the party chief.

"This has been going on for a long time," Advani said about the speculation in this regard.

Speculation on the issue had been rife ever since Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee made a surprise remark at a function in Delhi two months back that Advani would lead the party to victory.
The party at its national executive at Raipur last month also amended its constitution providing a second term for its president, albeit not consecutively, fuelling further speculation.
