Chennai Apr 15: In a significant change in its stance on the use of Article 356 to dismiss state governments, DMK today said it was not averse to demanding the use of this constitutional provision to dismiss the AIADMK government because of the 'extra-ordinary' situation prevailing in the state. DMK president M Karunanidhi told reporters here, after a meeting between him and PMK founder Dr S Ramadoss, that the PMK leader had suggested the use of Art 356. This would also be discussed at the April 24 opposition leaders meeting convened by him here.
Alleging that the BJP was supporting all the 'misdeeds' of the Jayalalithaa government, he said that it would not be invited for the opposition leaders meeting. Only those who had raised the issue of the 'misdeeds' in the state assembly would be invited for the proposed meeting, he said.
He said he would be compelled to lead an agitation demanding the repeal of controversial Pota, if the Tamil Nadu government did not stop the "misuse" of the Act.
Earlier, Dr Ramadoss said there was nothing wrong in using Article 356 to dismiss the AIADMK government as the people of the state wanted the government to go. People wanted fresh polls, he said. Bureau Report
