Ahmedabad, July 01: The 126th Lord Jagannath Rathyatra passed off peacefully tonight with all the three raths (chariots) carrying idols of Lord Jagannath, Subhadra and Lord Balaram reaching at the ancient temple in Jamalpur city area after covering its 24 km route. One person was injured in a 'scuffle' among the Akhada members as the procession reached Saraspur area of the city while police recovered some swords from members of an Akhada (local gymnasium) in the sensitive Dariapur area in the afternoon.
Heavy security arrangements were made including deployment of para-military troops and police personnel at all places, especially at all sensitive minority-dominated pockets.
Local Muslim leaders welcomed the yatra at certain parts of the city while residents of many sensitive pockets observed a 'janta curfew' during the procession in their areas.
However, a group of women had offered prayers for peaceful completion of the yatra in their areas.
Chief Minister Narendra Modi had earlier performed the traditional 'Pahind' that signalled the commencement of the Rathyatra.
