Jammu, Nov 05: Six more Industrial Training Institutes would soon come up in Jammu and Kashmir to impart vocational training to youth and enhance their scope in the national and international job markets. The state government has decided to set up ITI's at Banihal, Akhnoor, Ramnagar, Doru, Bijbehara and Tangmarg, Minister for Technical Education Haji Nissar Ahmad said.

Already there are four government and seven private polytechnics besides 37 ITI's in the state, he said. The polytechnics would be modernised under a World Bank aided project by 2005.

The Technical Education Department is also modernising and introducing new courses like dental laboratory technician, mechanic, consumer electronics, medical electronics, computer hardware, health and sanitary inspectors among others under a centrally sponsored Rs 30.60 crore scheme.

The minister said information technology and electronics system maintenance have been introduced at the ITI's in Srinagar, Anantnag, Leh, Kishtwar and Jammu. Scheduled Tribe candidates from Jammu, Doda, Rajouri, Poonch, Udhampur, Kupwara, Anantnag and Baramulla districts are being exclusively trained as electricians at the ITI's through additional facilities.

The department also envisages to further strengthen network of vocational training by involving private sector, he said. Bureau Report
