New Delhi, Oct 21: BSP president Mayawati today lashed out at media accusing it of "misinterpreting" her efforts to seek legal justice in the Taj corridor case saying
it was a "deliberate mischief" on its part to malign the party.
Strongly refuting reports that she went to court fearing arrest, she said "whatever has been highlighted about my petition with regard to the case showed that mediapersons are
not aware of the exact facts, or deliberately, through some design, they are attempting to demoralise the Bahujan Samaj."
She said she had filed a petition yesterday in a court to quash the CBI FIR as the charges levelled by the agency were not only not correct but "baseless". "If I cannot go to court against the charges levelled by the CBI, then where should I. It is my legal right," Mayawati said.
She accused the agency of working under "BJP pressure" to harm her politically.
She said the Bahujan Samaj, consisting of over 85 per cent of the total population, would lose faith in media if such reporting were to continue. The former UP Chief Minister also came down heavily on media reports that she had amassed huge money "disproportionate to her income" and said they should not fall prey to CBI "plants" but check with her before writing.
She side-stepped questions on her two accounts in two different banks in Delhi saying her entire financial statement was available to the Income Tax Department.
