New Delhi, June 30: Janata Party president Subramanian Swamy today described as a "fiasco" Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee's visit to China and accused him of signing on the "dotted line" the Border Trade Agreement through Nathula La Pass in Sikkim without "caring" for national security. The agreement was first signed by the Chandrashekhar government in February, 1991 when as commerce minister went to Beijing, he claimed adding at that time on the advice of the Indian military establishment "we did not include the Nathu La Pass as a border trading point. Subsequent governments also followed that policy." But, he said in a statement from Boston that Vajpayee rushed in and signed on the dotted line. Swamy also said Chinese official spokesman had made it clear during Vajpayee's visit that inclusion of Nathu La did in no way indicate Beijing's defacto endorsement of Sikkim's status. Bureau Report
